I grew up in a rural small town and I see this a lot from men that graduated the same time I did. The men that didn't go to college fell into depression because there are no entry level jobs to sustain them and it impacts their self-esteem. Then they usually have a kid before they are ready and if something goes south in the relationship with their kids mom then sometimes they make a suicide attempt.

We don't give men (or women) enough support as they make that transition into adulthood.
