How To Write Without Losing Your Day Job

If You Figure It Out, Let Me Know

I haven't published a new article in four months. I'm getting emails and direct messages about my plans to continue my blog, but honestly, I don’t know if I will continue publishing new articles.

I’m going through a transitional period where other areas feel more important. I started teaching eighth-grade English.

When I sit at the computer, I grade my students' essays instead of writing a new article.

I'm lucky to have enough emotional energy left over at the end of the day to shower and cook dinner, much less write a new article.

I'm Scared of People Reading My Writing

I haven't published any new articles after entering the classroom because I live in a red state with a Republican governor.

I worry about my students' parents reading my articles. I'm afraid I'll write something political, or worse, get accused of being a writing teacher who can't write.

I'm afraid of my students reading my blog. What if they read about my embarrassing experience on dating apps? I once got bullied for making the innocent mistake of wearing slides without socks. A student told me, "My outfit ate and starved at the same time."
